Closing Date 30 June 2016

Nominations are now open for the awards of Honorary Fellowship, Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Service Certificate for consideration by the RANZCOG Honours Committee and the RANZCOG Board in July 2016.
The iconCriteria of Awards should be reviewed prior to submitting a nomination to the College.

Process for Nominations

  • Nominations for Honorary Fellowship, Distinguished Service Medal, or Distinguished Service Award must be made by a Fellow of the College, and submitted in writing to the President by 30 June 2016.
  • Nominations for the Distinguished Service Certificate must be made by the CEO, Fellow or other nominee, in writing to the Honours Committee by 30 June 2016.
  • Nominations must include full details of the reason for the nomination and a curriculum vitae.
  • Nominations must be seconded (excluding nominations for the Distinguished Service Certificate) by a detailed letter of support from another Fellow of the College.
  • Either the nominator or the seconder must be a Councillor or a Regional Committee Chairman.

Information on the categories of College awards is as follows:

Honorary Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship is to be bestowed by the College on an individual for an outstanding contribution to either the work of the College or women’s health more generally, such as:

  • Medical practitioners, who do not hold Fellowship of the College, who have made an outstanding contribution to the study or practice of medicine in the field of women’s health.
  • Persons who are not medical practitioners who have made an outstanding contribution to the study or practice of medicine in the field of women’s health; in general this honour should be reserved for those who have not had their contribution otherwise recognised.
  • Persons who are not medical practitioners who have made an outstanding contribution to the work of the College.
  • Fellows of renown of other medical colleges, either in Australia, New Zealand or elsewhere.

Members or Associate Members of the College may be awarded Honorary Fellowship.

Honorary Fellows are not required to pay an entrance fee or annual subscription fees and are not required to satisfy the College’s continuing professional development requirements. Recipients are entitled to receive College publications.

Distinguished Service Medal

This is awarded to Fellows of the College who have made a significant contribution to the work of the College. This may be a more frequent award than the President’s medal. Nominations must be made and seconded by Fellows of the College, one of whom must be a Councillor or a Regional Committee Chair, and submitted in writing to the President. Awarding of a Distinguished Service Medal does not preclude awarding of a President’s medal at a later date.

Distinguished Service Award

This is awarded to persons other than Fellows of the College who have made a distinguished contribution to the work of the College. Nominations must be made and seconded by Fellows of the College, one of whom must be a Councillor or a Regional Committee Chair, and submitted in writing to the President.

Distinguished Service Certificate

This is awarded to members of the College who have made significant contributions over a number of years to the work of the College in one or more of the following areas:

  • Board Member including Office Bearers,
  • Councillor,
  • Chair of a College Committee who is not a Councillor,
  • Regional Committee Chair,
  • Regional Training Accreditation Committee Chair, or
  • RANZCOG Examiner (for any program).

Nominations for this award can be recommended to the Honours Committee by the CEO, Fellow or other nominee, no seconder required.

Process for Appeals

If a Proposer or Seconder is dissatisfied with the decision of the Honours Committee, the Process for Appeals is covered in the Appeals Procedures document, (RANZCOG Regulations A2.1 http://www.ranzcog.edu.au/the-ranzcog/policies-and-guidelines/appeals-procedures.html) and should be considered in conjunction with the College’s Exceptional Circumstances, Special Consideration and Reconsideration Policy (http://www.ranzcog.edu.au/the-ranzcog/policies-and-guidelines/special-consideration-reconsideration.html).

For further information on the nomination and evaluation process, please contact Sarah Paull, Administrative Officer, on spaull@ranzcog.edu.au or (03) 9412 2905.
